5 Unusual Ways to Get PR For Writers

Writers are always afraid of not getting enough exposure, especially when it comes to extending their works of art to their target audience. Creating a buzz around their latest masterpiece seems like an enduring task, especially since writers are not born PR strategists.  However, PR serves a very important role in connecting you to your target segment, because there are people out there who will take kindly to good PR techniques. Here are 5 unusual ways to win publicity for your work.

1. Turning Out to be a Pest

You know that writers strive on publicity, so there is no point in feeling bad if you feel you are pestering people for getting feedback on your book. So when there are family gatherings and informal meetings, you can publicize your book. Let it be known among your family, friends and friends of friends that your book is going to be launched soon and you need their feedback. After all, who else other than your friends will be willing to help you?

2. Create a Buzz for yourself in the Social Media

If you are a fiction writer then you can create a buzz for your book even before you release it in the market. You can hold a small contest where writers can predict the climax of the book and the one who gets closest to the one you have written (of course, your book will be unpublished  at that time) wins a prize. When you post this contest in all the major social media channels, you are encouraging people to look forward to your next book. Well, you cannot steal ideas from anyone because social media can work both ways too. And that kind of publicity is something you don’t need.

3. Getting in Touch with an Association

If your book has something in common with any registered organization or association, you can get in touch with them and they will help you publicize your book. There are thousands of organizations in the world who are also looking for publicity; so they will willingly welcome your intervention. You can get into a partnership with the association and maybe produce more books in the future.

4. Make the most of Google

You can publish excerpts of your book in your blog and in the social media. When people type the right words or phrases, they should be taken to your blog where they will read snatches of your book. Include only the most crucial portions and tease the readers so they cannot wait for your book’s release.

5. Include experts’ opinions on your Blog and Website

Create and cultivate relationship with other writers, they need not be famous writers; but writers who understand your field and who are competent enough to write a comment. You can also get other people, ordinary readers to comment on your book. They don’t have to know about the technicalities of writing, but they will definitely be able to say whether the book is informative, educational, contemplative and so on. When people visit your blog, they will read the excerpts and then the comments, and that will be good publicity for your book.
